Shogun was a bicycle company who operated during the 80's and manufactured bikes in japan to be sold strictly in the US, similar to Takara, Univega and many others.
A classic sport touring bike with a mid size wheel base. While the head tube angle is similar to road bikes, the seat tube has a geometry of touring bikes. This is the 25" size, which is the largest frame size for Japanese bikes we seem to refurbish a lot of shoguns in that size, the last one was a fully customized shogun 300. The shogun 400 was a mid end bicycle which offered the Tange 900 double butted chromoly frame (the tubing has 2 widths) and the Shimano EZ action shifter and derailer systems, one of the best non indexed systems in my opinion. This specific shogun 400 was sold with the Japanese Belt brand seat, very similar to brooks and wright seats. The Sakae SX is also a great crank, very similar to the sugino cranks. The shogun 400 also featured the nicest 2 position (also called "safety") brake levers made by shimano with nice supple hoods and wide lower levers for comfortable grip, much nicer than the Weinman and Dia compe versions. This bike was made when shimano was starting to dominate the market. A year prior, the shogun 400 was equipped with shimano brakes and suntour shifting system and 2 years earlier it was fully equipped with Suntour compoents. By 1986 the market  has shifted to Shimano as the indexed shifting systems were introduced. This beautiful Shogun 400 was sold to a Tufts Student from Panama he came by with his family and we had a great conversation. Really nice guys. Other shoguns we refurbished and sold here

Schwinn Paramount Tandem

Schwinn paramount tandem spotted in front of the Bike Boom shop. If your'e not familiar, Bike Boom is a used bike shop in Davis square, on the border of Cambridge and Somerville , near Boston MA. where we specialize in restoring and refurbishing used and vintage bikes and offer professional bicycle repair services.
We ususally post here pictures and info of bikes we either refurbished or belongs to friends or customers of the shop. This Schwinn paramount tandem belongs to none of the above. It was spotted on a sunday, just as i was about to open the shop, i managed to take a few photos and when i came back to admire it, the schwinn paramount tandem was already gone. I'm guessing it belongs to a local couple who came to dine in one of davis squares numerous joints. Here is another schwinn paramount we featured in the blog, that post has lots of info, links and history about the paramount brand and waterford plant.
